Since 2001, we’ve taught kids how to be healthier and happier in learning and life.

We’ve grown from a small, volunteer effort with classes in a handful of public schools into a nationally recognized nonprofit that has served more than 20,000 students across New York City. We provide kids of all backgrounds with opportunities to develop a growth mindset, build positive relationships with adults and peers, explore self-interests, engage in experiential learning, and build self-esteem.

History

As yoga teachers, we’ve learned that yoga can bring balance and focus to kids who are experiencing stress or anxiety. Bent on Learning was created in response to the events of September 11th to help the children of New York City heal. Since then, in the face of increasing mental health issues in schools, we’ve worked to expand our impact in the communities we serve.

“More than ever we need spaces where students can unplug and reconnect with themselves. Our strongest partnership is with Bent On Learning, who has helped our students reconnect, release, realign, and refocus.”

Kevin Froner, Principal, Manhattan Hunter Science High School
