Our Program
Bent On Learning collaborates with physical education teachers, guidance counselors and school administrators, offering yoga and meditation to grades PreK–12 as a gym class, elective or after-school activity. Each class meets one to three times per week for 10-15 weeks per semester. Students learn basic yoga poses, breathing exercises and meditation techniques appropriate for their age and ability in a supportive, non-competitive environment. They also get a chance to move gracefully, breathe deeply and focus more fully, developing strength, flexibility, balance, mental clarity and emotional intelligence. Bent On Learning yoga classes are aligned with New York State Learning Standards for Physical Education.
In an effort to reach the broader community, Bent On Learning has four components:
Bent On Learning
Teaching yoga to students during the school day
Bent On Teaching
Teaching school teachers how to integrate yoga seamlessly into their classrooms
Bent On Living
Giving students an age-specific chart of poses and other tools to develop a self-practice so they may continue yoga at home and share yoga with their families
Bent On Giving
Our annual fundraising campaign that brings together the yoga community to help support our program.
